The Function of TVT Board of Directors
The Board's primary role is to define the school's mission and ensure its long-term viability. Seeing to TVT's financial stability is paramount, but so is defining what kind of school we want to be, and setting the goals and standards for our graduates.
We identify several core attributes for our students and graduates and it is the Board's function to ensure that TVT's overall policies and actions remain consistent with those goals: · Strongly Identified Jews

Board Duties
In summary, the Board:
· Writes and periodically reviews the school's mission, vision statement and core values while also reviewing
the actual school policies so that these policies are consistent with TVT's articulation of those principles.
· Ensures the financial solvency and long-term viability of the institution, including its resources, physical plant and reserves
· Adopts and oversees the annual budget, and sets tuition rates
· Hires and periodically evaluates the Head of School, based on agreed-upon standards and policies
· Acts as ambassadors to the community and to the various school constituencies
· Through its own committee structure, conducts research, as necessary, that may result in strategic modifications or improvements to the policies and standards of the school
· Employs a "Refer, Defer, Confer" strategy with respect
to any complaints or suggestions it receives: Board members are not empowered to solve operational problem, so upon hearing a complaint, they should refer the complaining party to the Proper Authority who can address the problem, confer with that authority to advise them of the issue and complaint, and finally defer to the judgment and decision of that Proper Authority. "Proper Authorities" include the classroom teacher, department chair, curriculum coordinator, principal, the business manager and Head of School. |
