3rd Grader Embraces the Meaning of Tikkun Olam

During the holidays, we often take a moment to look at our own lives and express gratitude for the people and things we have. It's also the perfect opportunity to look outside of our own lives and think about how we can give back to the world. Harper C., one of our third grade Lions, has shown us the true meaning of Tikkun Olam.

Every year since Harper was born, she (and her mom) have chosen a charity to which her friends and family donate instead of giving gifts to Harper! On her 7th birthday, Harper chose the OC/IE chapter of The Make-a-Wish Foundation. She had an art party, so she wanted to choose a charity that supported kids and their creativity. It was the perfect fit!

Harper raised quite a bit of money during her party and in the weeks after, which brought her total to $5,000, enough to grant a wish!
The OC chapter of Make-a-Wish has been wanting to honor Harper, but her school activity schedule and their availability never seemed to mesh!

Last Thursday, the stars finally aligned and the OC chapter presented Harper with a plaque at their holiday party! The little girl whose wish was being granted had been wanting to go to Disneyland and she was finally able to go through the Make-a-Wish Foundation!

Harper is indeed an inspiration and a real gem in our TVT community! We are so proud of Harper for living our mission that character is paramount.
