Lyla Weiss, TVT's 2018 Irving Gelman Award Winner

TVT is proud to announce the 2018 Irving Gelman Award Winner is Lyla Weiss, ’06. Lyla, who received more nominations than any previous nominee, dedicates her life to helping others.

As Founder and President of the nonprofit, “Billy’s Camera,” Lyla provides cameras to orphans around the world so that they can experience the joy of photography. Through the lenses of donated cameras, the children explore their creativity and communicate through art while documenting their lives. Lyla hopes to raise awareness of these children in dire situations, through their creations.

It has already drawn the attention of celebrities and motivated others to join her worthy cause. With the goal of creating a self-sustaining charity through art, for in-need children around the world, Billy's Camera will compile, exhibit and sell the children's photography, so it provides a creative outlet and financial support to those that need it the most. One of her nominators shared, “On the surface, this may seem minor, but she gives the gift of a creative outlet and a form of expression to those shackled to poverty. Lyla doesn't do this for financial gain, but simply out of a desire to "repair the world.”

Lyla also strengthens the Jewish community by bringing Jews together. She regularly provides opportunities for young Jews to connect with each other to further their Jewish values and identify engagingly. One of her nominators described her as “everyone’s best friend.” Another added, “She is the first to bring food or assistance when someone is sick, and she always does everything with a genuine smile.”

Aside from giving selflessly, Lyla is a career recruiter for tech and marketing agencies at a creative recruiting firm in Los Angeles.
We hope everyone will join us for the TVT Annual Benefit on Sunday, April 29 to honor Lyla's character, leadership, Jewish values, vision, and determination.

Tickets are $90 each and are for sale at TARBUT.COM/TICKETS. The deadline for ticket sales is noon on Monday, April 23. Please Note: No last-minute ticket sales and no “walk-ins” the day of the event will be allowed this year.
