15th Annual Film Festival

Saturday March 7th was the 15th Annual TVT Southern California High School Film Festival at the packed Frida Cinema with more than 150 attendees in the audience.
TVT’s music students kicked the night off by playing the Star Wars cantina song below the theater’s marquee and led the audience into the theater for an incredible performance by The Institute to debut their new album “What Did We 2 Wrong”.

The festival had 13 films competing for 9 awards: the top 3 overall best as well as the best film in each individual category. The films shown represented TVT as well as schools around the nation including Idyllwild Arts and OCSA.

TVT took home 6 out of 9 awards including the documentary short Blind State taking first place for Overall Best Film, the drama Shade taking second place for Overall Best Film, Le Garcon Perdu taking Best Drama, Signal taking two awards, Best Comedy and the Kim Haye’s People’s Choice, and He Loves… taking the Diversity and Inclusion category.

The presiding judges were film professors Dr. Erica Aguero who earned her PhD from the Cinema and Media studies program at UCLA’s Department of Film, Television, and Digital Media as well as Rachel Bass who is the recipient of the Directors Guild of America Student Award. Special guests included Chapman University’s new Dean of Film and Media Arts, Stephen Galloway, who worked for the Hollywood Reporter since 1993, is an Emmy Award winning journalist, producer, and was named Entertainment Journalist of the Year in 2013.

Overall it was an amazing and fun night.
