Human Intelligence for a Changing World
At TVT, innovation begins not with technology, but with a question. Students learn to think independently, examine ideas critically, create and imagine, collaborate with others, and persist when an answer is not immediately clear.
As technology and AI reshape how we learn and work, these deeply human capacities matter more than ever. Our classrooms protect the thinking, relationships, and productive struggle through which students develop their own voices and ideas. Technology has a place when it deepens inquiry, expands creativity, or makes new kinds of learning possible—but it never replaces the learning students need to do for themselves. As a result, students learn to explain their reasoning, evaluate information, create original work, and decide when a tool supports their purpose—and when it gets in the way.
A Developmental Approach to AI
TVT gives students clear, developmentally appropriate expectations for technology and AI. In Lower School, learning remains rooted in conversation, hands-on exploration, creativity, movement, and play, with technology introduced gradually for specific purposes.
Beginning in Middle School, assignments clearly communicate whether generative AI may not be used, may be used in limited ways, or may be used more fully. Students remain responsible for understanding their work, checking accuracy, and acknowledging how AI contributed.
By Upper School, students have increasing opportunities to use AI for inquiry, analysis, feedback, revision, and problem-solving. They also learn to recognize when using it would bypass the practice, productive struggle, or original thinking an assignment is designed to develop.
