What it Means to Be a Lion

At TVT, athletics is an extension of our educational mission. We believe sports provide one of the most powerful opportunities for students to develop character, resilience, leadership, and a deep sense of belonging.

Being a Lion means more than wearing our colors or competing for championships. It means striving to become the very best version of ourselves on the field, in the classroom, and in our community. Guided by TVT's Jewish values of truth, respect, kindness, justice, repair of the world, and community, we grow through competition, we prepare and strive to win, and we ultimately become people who will make an impact in the world.

We compete with character.

We deeply respect ourselves, our teammates, our opponents, and our coaches. This respect fuels our decisions in and outside of competitions. We show up for each other.

We practice with determination.

We know that competing takes commitment, so we put in the hours. We revel in the drills, reps, and laps of our practices because the gains are worth it.

We move with confidence.

Our strength and conditioning program enhances our endurance and discipline, improves our mobility, and supports our functional strength. We enter any match, game, or tournament feeling strong and ready to compete—and we have a blast.

We unite as a team.

Our school community, dedicated coaches, and teammates remind us of the power and importance of teamwork and good sportsmanship. We hold each other accountable, learn from our losses, and celebrate our wins, on and off the field.

  2. Zachary Gayer ’11 

  3. Zachary left his mark on TVT as both a dedicated student and standout basketball player, leading with character on the court and in the classroom. TVT athletics sparked his passion for sports. He attended the University of Michigan, where he served as the head student manager for the basketball team and earned his degree in sports management. Today, he works as the social media manager for the NBA Champion Golden State Warriors. Zachary continues to be an inspiration for TVT athletics.
