Beast Academy Mathematics Curriculum

Our young analytical thinkers go beyond standard grade-level math, fostering deep algorithmic skills. Beast Academy’s comic-style lessons and puzzles make learning math innovative and fun while encouraging perseverance.

Hands-On Mathematics

Enter any math classroom in the Lower School and find students engaging with puzzles, complex problems, and number stories that build deep conceptual understanding. Through guided discussion and collaborative problem solving, students learn to explain their thinking, listen to different strategies, and refine their reasoning.

For those students who have a driving passion for mathematics, TVT has a dedicated math team in all three divisions. The Lower School team recently gained national recognition by earning the Team Achievement Award from the Noetic Math Learning Contest.

Relevant Math Curriculum

Our middle schoolers know they can tackle any complex math challenge we put in front of them. Our program equips them with practical exercises, real-life examples, multiple strategies, and, most importantly, the courage and tenacity to keep trying.

Middle School Math Team

Thanks to our accelerated curriculum and Math Team faculty sponsors, we have increasing numbers of Middle School students winning awards in the American Mathematics Competition, and more students qualifying for the American Invitational Mathematics Examination.

As our Middle School students learn complex math skills like number theory and algebraic reasoning, they are working together to troubleshoot and find solutions. Thus, both their analytical and teamwork skills are strengthened, preparing them for a future of solving problems together.

Advanced Course Offerings

Upper School students sign up for Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra and Differential Equations not just for their college applications, but because they love math. With 15 different mathematics offerings to choose from, all TVT students flourish in college and careers with solid critical thinking skills.

Student-Centered Approach

Students take an active role in their learning during all of our math courses, which incorporate group work, hands-on activities, and real-life applications. This student-centered approach boosts interest and encourages students to explain concepts to peers, improving retention and collaboration skills.

Upper School Math Team

Much like our Lower and Middle School Math Teams, the Upper School team is crushing it. They are repeated champions who find a thrill in exploring complex topics like combinatorics, probability, and number theory. This extracurricular experience is the perfect way for students to expand their academic networks and engage in team-based problem solving.

After each math lesson, we invite students to engage in a ‘number talk’ to discuss the strategies they used and what allowed them to be successful in the lesson. This sparks students' metacognitive skills to reflect on their processes to hone their craft.
