On Wednesday, March 21st, 2018, sixteen 4th and 5th graders represented TVT in the Battle of the Books (BOB) competition.
The Battle of the Books is a literary competition among Orange County schools. Its purpose is to encourage students to read good literature, increase reading comprehension and have fun while competing with their peers.
In preparation for the BOB event, each student read 20 books from different genres such as biography, realistic fiction, humor, science-fiction, historical fiction, mystery, etc. The team met every Thursday morning to discuss the books and ask questions. There were several scrimmages, and the students chose to come in during lunch to study the books in further detail. We are very proud of our team, "The Lion Keepers"! They did an excellent job during the competition. They answered many difficult questions showing their wealth of knowledge. Each of our teams received a perfect score in one of the rounds. Our students were great ambassadors representing TVT. They demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and were terrific team players. In addition to the enjoyment of reading the books, the kids learned essential lessons that will carry over to all areas of learning, such as the value of hard work, teamwork, discipline, and pride in the results of the significant effort that culminates in a job well done.
