Information for International Students

Thank you for your interest in Tarbut V’Torah Community Day School. TVT is a TK-12th grade Jewish day school. As a pluralistic Jewish Day School, we welcome applications for admission from all families who want their children to participate in Jewish education. All of our students take a dual curriculum of general and Judaic studies (Please note that all TK-8th students at TVT are required to take Hebrew). Our dual curriculum is rigorous and can be challenging for non-fluent English speakers. Since TVT does not offer an English Language Learning (ELL) program, all international applicants must be proficient in English and meet the criteria as determined by TVT.

We offer enrollment for international students on a limited basis. If you decide to apply, we would like to make you aware of the specialized admission process for international students.

  • Inquire for Information

Please call or e-mail our staff directly to request information and check availability before applying online. Be sure to give us as much information as possible such as the name, birth date, gender, and current grade of the student.
  • Application for Admission

Please fill out our online application at www.tarbut.com and provide the following requirements:

    Official Transcripts
We require official transcripts from the past three years of schooling. The transcripts must be translated and have the appropriate dates, stamps, and credentials. If the student has studied in the US previously, transcripts must be provided from the US school as well. Transcripts must be submitted directly to TVT via postal service or email.

    Teacher and Administrator Recommendations
Recommendations must come from the student's current Math and English teachers, and a school administrator. All recommendations must be in English (or be translated). Tutors, family friends, and other relatives should not fill out these forms. Recommendations must be submitted directly to TVT by the school via postal service or email.
  • Admission Testing

All middle and high school international students must take one of the following test:  iSEE, SLATE-Plus test, IBT or TOEFL (TOEFL Jr.) to be considered. These tests are widely available internationally. More information and registration can be found on the following websites:

    https://www.itepexam.com/test-takers/test-takers/#Schedule-A-Test
    www.toefl.org
    https://www.ets.org/toefl/ibt/register/
    https://www.ets.org/toefl_junior
    www.iseetest.org

We evaluate the test results along with all the other pieces of the application equally to determine the level of English fluency. We do not have minimum scores for applicants in grades K-4. Minimum TOEFL score is a total of 95 (minimum of 21 in reading section) for Middle/Upper School.
  • Student Interviews

This is an extremely important part of the application. All applicants must be interviewed by an admissions representative. Although we prefer to meet all applicants in person, online interviews will be arranged if the student or parent cannot travel to the US. Please contact the Admissions Office directly to make interview arrangements.
  • Homestays and Residency Requirements

Please be aware that TVT does not offer/arrange homestays. Furthermore, we require that all students must live locally with their parents. We don't accept students that will be living with a homestay or relative.
  • Enrollment

When a student is accepted, an acceptance letter and an online enrollment contract will be sent by email. If the family decides to enroll, a 10% initial tuition payment is required. After the deposit is paid, tuition must be paid in full according to the school’s tuition schedule. If the tuition is not paid in accordance with the school's schedule, the I-20 will be terminated.
  • I-20 Information

Once the tuition deposit is received, the Office of Admissions will prepare and send the I-20 form by Federal Express to the student in his or her home country.

Confirmation letters of admission and copies of the acceptance letter will also be included in this packet to make certain that travel to the US goes smoothly. It is the responsibility of the student and family to make arrangements for a visa interview in their home country. TVT does not know each government's regulations and does not assist in scheduling these appointments.
